Sport Fish...
Hand crafted in the copper foil method. Living images in glass, inside.
In Minnesota, Land of 10,000 Lakes, the out of doors, camping and fishing are a big part of life. Nature has done a great deal to influence on the windows I create.

This page has just a couple of items on this theme.

It all begins with a cartoon pattern. I create or import a pattern into my computer so I can get the dimensions right, then I add the seams. Sometimes getting the design requires scanning a photo and electronically tracing them as the minnows in the above pattern. Try to find a minnow pattern!

Bass Strike

Bass Strike has a daredevil type lure overlaid on the surface. Some of the plant material is also surface soldered. The eye is actually from a bass eye from an online taxidermists shop. The use of overlay adds an extra dimension to this window for a 3D effect from a two dimensional image.

Glass: Ruby Red and White Opaque (lure), Waterglass, and Iridescent Ivory from Spectrum Glass. Yellow, Green and Brown (bass body).  Ice White, Lime Green, Emerald Green Stipple, Ice White, Silver Yellow, and Green Stipple (plant material) from Youghiogheny Glass.

The process of creating windows from a pattern is detailed in the image above. The cartoon pattern is laid out on a light table, and the pieces are placed and soldered using the copper foil method. To prevent creeping I use thick lines on the layout pattern and hair lines on the cutting pattern. The cutting pattern pieces are trimmed out from the full sheet pattern and I lay out and trace them onto the glass for cutting.

Bass Strike 2 Bass Strike 2 features Youghiogheny glass for the body and Spectrum Clear Waterglass and reed glass for the water and fins. A variety of Youghiogheny and Spectrum greens were used for the plants.
